The Java Version Provides a real-time continuously updating view of the Island Limit Order Book. Requires a web browser capable of running Java 1.1 applets. Island is the world's largest ECN. ECNs or "Electronic Communication Networks" are computerized trading networks that match buy and sell orders directly, without the help of a traditional marketmaker. Quotes are real-time, but do not necessarily represent the best bid or ask in the marketplace. As Island executes around one out of every seven trades on Nasdaq, the spread is often quite thin and therefore,Island quotes are almost as good as exchange quotes most of the time. Stocks can be traded during the hours of 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
