Glossary Term: BULL SPREAD

Definition(s) for BULL SPREAD:

1. ) an extended period of generally rising prices in an individual item, such as stock or gold; a group of items such as commodities or oil stocks; or the market as a whole. This term is often subject to individual interpretation because security prices are often subject to reversals. Thus, it is sometimes difficult to know whether the price changes are temporary interruption or permanent end to a bull market.

2. ) An option strategy that achieves its maximum potential if the underlying security rises far enough, and has its maximum risk if the security falls far enough. An option with a lower striking price is bought and one with a higher striking price is sold, both generally having the same expiration date. Either puts or calls may be used for the strategy. See also Bear Spread.
