Glossary Term: IN-THE-MONEY

Definition(s) for IN-THE-MONEY:


1. ) A term used to describe an option that is worth something if exercised immediately. In the case of a call option, it means the current price is higher than the strike price. In the case of a put option, it means the current price is below the strike price

2. ) A call option is in-the-money if the strike price is below the current market price of the underlying security. A put option is in-the-money if the strike price is above the current market price of the underlying security. The intrinsic value of an option is the amount by which it is said to be in-the-money.

3. ) A term describing any option that has intrinsic value. A call option is in-the-money if the underlying security is higher than the striking price of the call. A put option is in-the-money if the security is below the striking price. See also Out-of-the-Money and Intrinsic Value.

4. ) An adjective used to describe an option with intrinsic value. A call option is in the money if the stock price is above the strike price. A put option is in the money if the stock price is below the strike price.
